Franco Colapinto, a 21-year-old Argentine driver, has signed a multi-year contract with the BWT Alpine team for the 2025 Formula 1 season. His arrival strengthens the team's options, as he will take on the role of test and reserve driver. Colapinto joins after a solid performance with Williams, where he scored five points in nine races following his mid-2024 season debut.

A key role within the team

The agreement with Alpine includes important tasks, such as participating in tests with previous cars alongside Paul Aron and Ryō Hirakawa. He will also play a crucial role in developing the team's simulator in Enstone and will attend various grands prix throughout the season. These activities highlight the importance of his recruitment as part of a strategy aimed at strengthening the team's prospects for the future.

Statements on the signing

Colapinto expressed his excitement for this new challenge in his professional career:

"I am deeply grateful to Williams for giving me the opportunity to debut in Formula 1. Now, I begin a new chapter with Alpine, and I am motivated to contribute to this project to the fullest."

Flavio Briatore, Alpine's executive advisor, emphasized the importance of this addition:

"Colapinto has shown great potential since his debut. We are excited to have him on our team and are confident he will bring value to the team's development."

Decision context

Colapinto's addition comes at a crucial time for Alpine, amid doubts about the continuity of Jack Doohan, who currently holds a seat in the main team under a short-term contract. Colapinto's experience and capabilities represent a solid alternative, ensuring viable options for Alpine in the near future.
