Ferrari and Andretti Formula Racing have signed a multi-year agreement starting in 2026, contingent on the team receiving formal approval from the FIA to compete in Formula 1. As announced this Tuesday, the Italian manufacturer will supply power units and transmissions to the team backed by General Motors and TWG Global.
Andretti Formula Racing's intention to join the category in 2026 as a new customer team had already generated expectations since the announcement of its collaboration with Cadillac, one of General Motors' flagship brands. The team's structure will be based on Andretti Global's project in Silverstone, with plans to develop its own power units by 2028.
Ferrari's decision to participate as a supplier has a strategic context. With the end of its relationship with Sauber in 2025, which will transition into Audi, the Italian manufacturer found in Andretti a new partner to maintain its presence as a supplier on the grid.
Although Andretti had originally negotiated with Renault to obtain engines, this collaboration expired when the process for entering the championship was delayed. Renault, in turn, decided to withdraw from the market as an engine manufacturer starting in 2026, leaving Andretti in search of an alternative.
