Genesis has announced its entry into endurance racing with the creation of Genesis Magma Racing. At an event held in Dubai, the brand presented its strategy to participate in the World Endurance Championship starting in 2026 and the IMSA SportsCar Championship in 2027. This announcement was accompanied by the unveiling of the Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar.
Genesis Magma Racing will have technical support from Hyundai Motorsport, known for its expertise on international stages. Before its debut in the top categories, the team will compete in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) in 2025, with an LMP2 prototype that will serve as a key preparation step. Drivers Logan Sargeant, Jamie Chadwick, and Mathys Jaubert have been confirmed for this initial phase.
The team will also collaborate with ORECA Motorsport and IDEC Sport, companies recognized for their expertise in advanced technology for endurance racing. Additionally, Genesis Magma Racing will operate from the Paul Ricard Circuit. The Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar embodies the brand's design philosophy known as “Athletic Elegance.” This prototype combines aerodynamic lines, hybrid technology, and minimalist design. One of its most notable features is its "Two Lines" lighting system, a Genesis signature that also enhances aerodynamic efficiency.
Every detail of the GMR-001 is designed to maximize stability at high speeds. Genesis' characteristic parabolic line directs airflow to the rear diffuser, contributing to asphalt grip. At the rear, an adjustable wing adapts to track conditions.
Drivers André Lotterer and Luis “Pipo” Derani have been selected to lead the development of the GMR-001. Both bring extensive experience in this type of racing. Their initial work will include technical tests and simulations in preparation for the 2026 debut. Lotterer, who recently won a world title, highlighted the opportunity to contribute to the project from its inception. Derani expressed his enthusiasm for being part of a project of this caliber and contributing his previous experience.
