Aston Martin THOR Team has confirmed Alex Riberas and Harry Tincknell as the first drivers for the 2025 season of the World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The British team aims to return to the top at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a feat they last achieved in 1959. Both drivers bring extensive experience with Aston Martin and have played a critical role in developing the Valkyrie hypercar.
Details of the Valkyrie and Its Debut
The Valkyrie, powered by a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine, will be the only car competing simultaneously in both series under the Hypercar category regulations. Its WEC debut is scheduled for the race in Qatar, while in IMSA, it will participate in the 12 Hours of Sebring. Utilizing the iconic competition numbers 007 and 009, Aston Martin continues its tradition with two cars in the top category of both WEC and IMSA.
Harry Tincknell's Return to Aston Martin
Tincknell returns to Aston Martin after four years, following his class victory in LMGTE Pro at Le Mans 2020 with a Vantage GTE. "It is a true honor to return and be part of the Valkyrie program," Tincknell said. "During initial tests, the car has shown promising characteristics, and I can't wait to race it."
Riberas' Promotion to Hypercar Category
On the other hand, Alex Riberas will move up from the GT class, following a standout season with The Heart of Racing. "Representing Aston Martin in the Hypercar class is a great honor," said Riberas. "The Valkyrie is the most spectacular car I have ever driven, and I look forward to sharing it with fans worldwide."
Team Principal Ian James' Comments
Team Principal Ian James highlighted the dedication of the drivers and the team's effort in preparing the Valkyrie. "Both drivers have shown the speed and commitment needed during the testing phase, and we look forward to the 2025 season. There is still much work to be done, but the excitement within the team is palpable as we approach the start of competition."
Final Testing Phase of the Valkyrie
The Aston Martin Valkyrie is in the final phase of its testing program, accumulating over 12,500 km, including recent sessions in Bahrain and Daytona. According to Adam Carter, Aston Martin's head of endurance racing, the Valkyrie has surpassed all objectives so far. "The real challenge will be competing on track, but we are eager to see how our drivers perform during the season."
