Max Verstappen achieved victory in the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix, moving up from 17th on the grid and winning the race under rainy conditions. Alpine, meanwhile, delivered an excellent result with a double podium, placing Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly in second and third place, respectively. Lando Norris, who started from pole position, finished sixth after a race filled with incidents and leadership changes.
Chaotic Start and Verstappen's Comeback
The race began with an incident on the formation lap when Lance Stroll crashed, nullifying the first start attempt. This event led some drivers, including Norris and Russell, to leave the grid, a situation that was investigated during the race. Verstappen, starting from 17th, took advantage of the changing track conditions and mistakes from others to move up, finishing the first lap in 11th place.
Nico Hülkenberg's spin on lap 27 triggered a virtual safety car, allowing for strategic pit stops. Verstappen and Ocon opted to stay out, which brought them to the top positions alongside Gasly. A subsequent accident involving Carlos Sainz led to a full safety car, which allowed Verstappen to overtake Ocon on the restart and take the lead.
Alpine Secures Double Podium
Norris lost ground after an error at Turn 1, giving up positions to Leclerc and Russell. Alpine took advantage of this to secure second and third place, allowing them to move up to sixth in the constructors' championship standings.
Penalties and Race Conclusion
The race concluded with Oscar Piastri receiving a penalty for a collision, relegating him to eighth place. Yuki Tsunoda achieved seventh, and Lewis Hamilton closed out the points after a duel with Sergio Pérez.
With this victory, Verstappen broke a winless streak dating back to June and gained crucial points in the final stretch of the season.
