Oscar Piastri set the pace in the sprint qualifying for the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix, surpassing his McLaren teammate Lando Norris, while Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen completed the top positions.
McLaren leads with different strategies at Interlagos
The Interlagos circuit saw the McLaren drivers using different approaches in the final phase of qualifying. Both went out early on soft tires as the weather grew uncertain. Norris initially led with a time of 1'08.928, but Piastri surpassed him by 0.029 seconds, recording a 1'08.899 and securing the top spot. Leclerc, on a single flying lap, placed third, followed by Verstappen.
Bearman stands out in his participation in Brazil
Ollie Bearman, substituting for Kevin Magnussen at Haas, reached the final phase of qualifying and secured tenth place. Although his best lap was invalidated for exceeding track limits, Bearman highlighted his solid performance. "I felt good from the first lap. I made a small mistake in the first sector, but the rest of the lap was positive," he said.
Lawson and Gasly advance in the sprint qualifying
Liam Lawson qualified eighth and expressed confidence for the race, noting the team's improvement since the morning. Pierre Gasly, seventh on the grid, continued his good run and was optimistic about scoring points.
Albon reviews Williams' performance in Brazil
Alex Albon, who finished ninth, noted that his performance on medium tires was better than on softs. "The car felt good on the mediums. We will analyze how to improve with the softs for the race," Albon explained. Fernando Alonso, Esteban Ocon, and Yuki Tsunoda were eliminated in the first round, reflecting the tough competition at Interlagos.
