Porsche adjusts its driver line-up for WEC and IMSA in 2025

Porsche adjusts driver lineup for the upcoming WEC and IMSA seasons

Porsche has made several adjustments to its driver lineup for the 2025 season of the World Endurance Championship (WEC), aiming to improve its performance in the upcoming campaign. Unlike the 2024 season, the team will reduce its presence in the WEC, using only two regular drivers per car.

One of the most important changes is the promotion of French driver and former Porsche Junior, Julien Andlauer, to the brand's official team. On the other hand, three standout drivers will leave the Porsche 963 program: André Lotterer, a three-time Le Mans winner, and Dane Cameron, a four-time IMSA champion, who will not renew their contracts. Additionally, Frédéric Makowiecki will conclude his relationship with Porsche after eleven years.

New lineups for the WEC 2025

The next season will feature Michael Christensen from Denmark and Julien Andlauer in the Porsche 963 No. 5 in the WEC. The No. 6 car will be driven by Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium) and Kévin Estre (France). For the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the addition of a third driver is planned: Mathieu Jaminet (France) for the No. 5 and Matt Campbell (Australia) for the No. 6.

IMSA participation and key rotations

Jaminet and Campbell will also be at the helm of the No. 6 in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, a series they won together in 2022. The No. 7 in IMSA will be driven by Felipe Nasr, current champion, and Nick Tandy, who won Le Mans in 2015. Estre and Vanthoor will also support in selected Endurance Cup races.

Recognition for departing drivers

Thomas Laudenbach, vice president of Porsche Motorsport, thanked Lotterer, Cameron, and Makowiecki for their work over the past few years. He highlighted that these drivers were essential to the Porsche 963's achievements in both Europe and America.

Urs Kuratle, director of Porsche's factory LMDh team, emphasized the importance of having a balanced and experienced team in both WEC and IMSA, and commented that the new lineup reflects Porsche's commitment to its young driver development program.

Focus on young driver development

Porsche continues to focus on identifying and supporting talented young drivers. Andlauer is the fourth former Porsche Junior to join the official team after proving his ability in lower categories, including victories in the Porsche Carrera Cup and Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
