The McLaren team continues to build on its partnership with Google, and for the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, they have decided to bring back the special "Chrome" design under the slogan "Chrome Shines Again." This decoration was first used during the 2023 British Grand Prix, where it combined chrome elements with the team’s characteristic papaya livery.
A formula that worked in Silverstone
Last year, this same color scheme brought good results for McLaren at Silverstone. Lando Norris finished on the podium, securing second place, while Oscar Piastri crossed the line in a solid fourth. Although they didn’t manage to beat Max Verstappen, who won the race, it was an important performance for the Woking-based team. This time, McLaren aims to repeat or even improve those results at the Circuit of the Americas.
Lando Norris and the championship pressure
With only six races left in the season, Norris is 52 points behind championship leader Max Verstappen. Verstappen currently leads with 331 points, while Norris follows with 279. Closing this gap is crucial if he wants to stay in the title fight. In Austin, Norris will have not only the main race to score points but also the Sprint race, which provides an additional opportunity to narrow the gap.
Oscar Piastri continues to solidify his season
Oscar Piastri, meanwhile, is focused on improving and adapting during his debut season in Formula 1. The young Australian driver has shown consistency in recent races, and Austin offers another opportunity to reaffirm his talent within the team and continue accumulating important points for his future.
The "Chrome" design extends to the uniforms
Not only will the MCL38s sport the chrome touch; Norris and Piastri's uniforms have also been designed to reflect the modern aesthetic of this partnership with Google. It is an example of how both brands are working together not only to stand out on the track but also to integrate innovation and technology into all aspects of their collaboration.
The constructors' championship also at stake
In addition to the individual fight, McLaren is engaged in a tight constructors' championship. Before the United States Grand Prix, McLaren leads the standings with 516 points, closely followed by Red Bull with 475. This difference will be crucial for the British team, which aims to extend its advantage over its closest competitors.

Verstappen wins in Japan in the face of McLaren pressure
The Red Bull driver took his fourth consecutive victory at Suzuka while the McLarens completed the podium.
