Toyota Gazoo Racing and Haas F1 Team have reached a collaboration agreement aimed at training Japanese drivers and technicians in Formula 1. This alliance includes the participation of Toyota’s drivers and technical staff in key Haas team tests and activities, giving them the opportunity to work in a competitive environment.

The agreement also covers areas such as data analysis and aerodynamic development of the cars, providing a space for both teams to share knowledge and optimize processes that can be applied both in racing and vehicle production.

Akio Toyoda's comments on Formula 1

During the announcement of the collaboration, Akio Toyoda spoke about the decision he made in the past to withdraw Toyota from Formula 1. Although he maintains that the decision was appropriate at the time, he admitted that it may have limited the opportunities for young Japanese drivers to compete at the highest level.

Toyoda mentioned that, after that withdrawal, there was a sense of unease within the team. However, today he seeks to provide new opportunities to those same drivers through this collaboration with Haas, helping to facilitate their development internationally.

Development of new talents

One of the main objectives of this collaboration is to provide a space for young Japanese drivers and technicians to develop in a professional environment. Toyoda emphasized the importance of creating clear paths for drivers currently competing in Super Formula and for young people interested in motorsports to achieve their goals.

Toyoda also highlighted the role played by Ayao Komatsu, Haas team principal, in this effort. Both share the desire to support young people so that they can achieve their dreams and develop their skills in a global environment.

Looking to the future

Toyoda expressed his hope that this collaboration will not only benefit both parties but will also serve as inspiration for future generations of Japanese drivers. He stressed that the goal is not to focus on a return of Toyota to F1, but to open new possibilities for young people to grow and participate in the highest category of motorsport.
