Ferrari requests changes to WEC regulations after Spa ruling

Ferrari has requested a clarification in the regulations of the World Endurance Championship after their appeal regarding the results of the 6 Hours of Spa was rejected. The appeal was submitted following the race restart outside the scheduled time, which altered the course of the competition.

The incident at the 6 Hours of Spa

The team protested the stewards' decision to restart the race after the time limit. According to Ferrari, the current WEC rules are not clear enough on this matter, which caused confusion. The incident occurred when the race was stopped due to damage to the barriers. The repairs took longer than expected, leading the stewards to restart the competition at 19:10, ten minutes after the scheduled finish time. Before the red flag, both Ferrari cars were leading the race. However, after the restart, they lost key positions. The Porsche teams of Jota and Penske took advantage of their pit stops before the incident, allowing them to gain an edge over the Ferrari cars.

Ferrari's call for rule review

The director of the Ferrari AF Corse team, Batti Pregliasco, explained that the goal of the appeal was to achieve a clarification of the regulations to prevent these situations from happening again. Pregliasco insisted that the ambiguity in the current WEC rules needs to be addressed.

Reaction from other teams

Other teams, such as BMW, have supported Ferrari's request. BMW M Motorsport boss Andreas Roos agreed that the regulations need to be clarified to avoid similar confusion in future competitions. So far, the FIA has not issued a statement on whether they will review the rules in response to these requests.
