Oliver Bearman will take the wheel of the Haas VF-24 in Azerbaijan following Kevin Magnussen's suspension. The Dane has accumulated 12 penalty points on his superlicence, after an incident with Pierre Gasly in Monza, which forces him to miss the next race.
Bearman, 19 years old and a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, has been chosen to take Magnussen's place. This will not be his first time behind the wheel in Formula 1, as he previously replaced Carlos Sainz in Saudi Arabia, securing a remarkable seventh place.
Magnussen out due to suspension
Magnussen's suspension was confirmed following an accident in Monza that cost him two additional points on his license, exceeding the permitted limit. This prevents him from participating in Azerbaijan, and Bearman, who already has a full-time seat secured with Haas for 2025, will use this opportunity to gain more experience.
Bearman's preparation
Throughout 2025, Bearman has been actively participating with Haas, completing tire tests and several free practice sessions. His performance in those opportunities has been highly valued by the team. Ayao Komatsu, Haas' team principal, highlighted not only his speed but also his ability to understand the team's needs and contribute effectively.
Bearman has been praised for his teamwork, something essential in a category with limited testing opportunities. His previous experience in Saudi Arabia and the FP1 sessions give him an important advantage in adapting to the race weekend in Azerbaijan.
Haas confident in teamwork
The Haas team sees this as an opportunity to continue working with Bearman, who will have the experienced Nico Hulkenberg as a teammate. Komatsu emphasized that the relationship between both drivers will be key to achieving good results, taking advantage of Hulkenberg's knowledge and references.
Magnussen is expected to return to the Haas cockpit for the next Singapore Grand Prix, once his suspension is served.
