Cadillac Racing has confirmed that its participation in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will increase in 2025 with the addition of a third V-Series.R prototype. This expansion includes the return of Wayne Taylor Racing, a team that has already achieved important results with Cadillac, along with Action Express Racing, the reigning IMSA GTP champion. Both teams will use the Cadillac V-Series.R, equipped with the purpose-built 5.5L DOHC V8 engine.
Wayne Taylor Racing will operate two cars in the 2025 season, resuming its partnership with Cadillac after competing with the brand from 2017 to 2020. During that period, the team secured victories in prestigious races like the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring, along with championship titles in endurance racing. This return strengthens the long-standing relationship between Wayne Taylor and General Motors, which began in 1990 when Taylor raced with a Chevrolet prototype.
Meanwhile, Action Express Racing, the 2023 IMSA GTP champion, will continue working with Cadillac under the Cadillac Whelen name. The team will maintain its participation with the number 31 car, which has been a contender in the top endurance races in North America. Action Express has partnered with GM since 2012, initially with the Corvette DP and later with Cadillac prototypes in the DPi and GTP categories.
Mark Reuss, president of General Motors, pointed out that both teams have the ability to keep Cadillac Racing competitive for the top titles. The driver lineup is still to be announced, but the teams are expected to make a significant impact in the competition.
The Cadillac V-Series.R, which debuted in 2023, is the brand's third prototype and the first to feature a hybrid system. Co-developed with Dallara, this car incorporates several distinctive elements from Cadillac's production models.
