Ferrari and Aston Martin secured the top positions in qualifying for the 2024 Lone Star Le Mans, setting the fastest times in the Hypercar and LMGT3 categories. Antonio Giovinazzi, driving the Ferrari 499P for the AF Corse team, recorded the fastest time in Hypercar with 1m50.390s, marking the first pole of the season for car number 51. Robert Kubica, also in a Ferrari 499P, took second place, 0.277s behind.
Cadillac Racing, driven by Alex Lynn, secured third place, while Charles Milesi, in the Alpine, took fourth. Antonio Fuoco, in another Ferrari 499P, finished in fifth, followed by Matt Campbell in the Porsche Penske 963, completing the top six. The Porsche Penske car number 6 finished in 14th place after a challenging session.
In LMGT3, Ian James, driving the Aston Martin Vantage for Heart of Racing, secured the top spot with a time of 2m05.587s. Sarah Bovy, in a Lamborghini Huracan from Iron Dames, took second place, 0.172s behind. Francois Heriau, in the VISTA AF Corse Ferrari, and Aliaksandr Malykhin, in the Manthey PureRxcing Porsche 911 RSR GT3, completed the second row.
The TF Sport Corvette Z06 GT3, driven by Tom van Rompuy, and the VISTA AF Corse Ferrari, with Thomas Flohr, completed the top 10 in LMGT3. However, Van Rompuy is under investigation for a possible infraction during qualifying.
Driver Comments
Antonio Giovinazzi expressed his satisfaction after qualifying: "From the start, we knew we had a fast car, and today we confirmed it with an excellent lap. Now, our focus is on the race."
Ian James, from Heart of Racing, commented on his pole in LMGT3: "Securing pole at our home race is a great start. The team has done a great job, and now we just need to focus on the race."
