BWT Alpine F1 Team has confirmed that Jack Doohan will be their full-time driver for the 2025 Formula 1 season. The young Australian, who has been the team's reserve driver for the past two seasons, will take the seat alongside Pierre Gasly, thus forming a team that combines youth and experience.
Jack Doohan, 21, is the son of five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan and has excelled in lower categories, including a second place in Formula 3 in 2021 and a third place in Formula 2 in 2023. During his time as a reserve driver in 2024, his contribution to the team has been crucial, especially in the development of the car through his work in the simulator.
The announcement marks an important step in Doohan's career, as he will be the first driver from the Alpine Academy to secure a full-time seat with the team. His promotion is the result of his perseverance and the achievements he has obtained in lower categories. In 2023, he delivered a remarkable performance in Formula 2, becoming the first driver in the history of the category to lead every lap of a long race, while also securing pole position, victory, and the fastest lap in the same event during the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Doohan expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to compete full-time in Formula 1, highlighting his gratitude to the team's management for the trust placed in him. His focus will be on absorbing as much information as possible to be fully prepared for the 2025 season.
Oliver Oakes, BWT Alpine F1 Team Principal, highlighted Doohan's natural talent and strong work ethic. With his addition, the team hopes to continue its development and improve its position on the grid in the future.
Jack Doohan will finish the 2024 season as a reserve driver, participating in tests and maintaining his role in the team's simulator, ensuring he is fully prepared for the challenge that awaits him in 2025.
