Max Verstappen won the sprint race of the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, facing challenges from McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. The race began with safety incidents, highlighting Verstappen's skill in maintaining his position.
The race started with an additional formation lap due to safety issues with photographers on the track. Verstappen took the lead from pole, but Norris briefly overtook him at turn 3, allowing Piastri to join the fight.
On lap 5, Norris attacked Verstappen again. This maneuver allowed Piastri to move into second place. Despite these challenges, Verstappen quickly regained the lead and began to pull away.
Verstappen maintained his position, while Piastri and Norris fought each other. Russell, from Mercedes, overtook Sainz to position himself fourth, although he could not close the gap with the McLarens.
Hamilton, in sixth place, pressured Sainz during the race, while Leclerc moved up from tenth to seventh place. Pérez completed the points positions, finishing eighth.
Nico Hulkenberg received a 10-second penalty for forcing Fernando Alonso off the track. Hulkenberg finished in 19th place, only ahead of Zhou Guanyu.
