Oracle Red Bull Racing has confirmed a two-year contract extension for Sergio "Checo" Pérez, meaning the Mexican driver will continue to compete in the pinnacle of motorsport until the 2026 season.
Since joining the team in late 2020, Pérez has experienced his most successful seasons in F1. In 2023, he achieved a historic second place in the Drivers' Championship, contributing to Red Bull's first double podium in championship history. His points have also been crucial in the team being crowned Constructors' Champions in 2022 and 2023.
A Seasoned Driver:
At 34 years old, Checo has accumulated five wins, 29 podiums and three pole positions with Oracle Red Bull Racing, including the first pole for a Mexican driver. The Guadalajara native, nicknamed "The King of the Streets" and "The Mexican Minister of Defense" for his key role in Max Verstappen's first world title in Abu Dhabi 2021, has become the most successful Mexican driver in F1 history.
Confidence and Optimism for the Future:
Christian Horner, CEO and Team Principal, stated:
"This is a crucial time to define our driver line-up for 2025 and we are delighted to continue working with Checo. Continuity and stability are essential for the team, and both Checo and Max form a strong and successful duo, achieving the team's first double podium in the championship last year. Checo has had a strong start to 2024 with second places in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Japan, followed by a podium in China. The last races have been challenging, there is a lot of competition on the grid, but we are confident in Checo and look forward to his return to the exceptional form and performance that characterizes him. Last year was a unique season and we will have to work hard to retain our titles, but we are confident in our driver line-up and the team in general, which is fundamental in what is shaping up to be a very tight championship this year."
With this extension, Oracle Red Bull Racing maintains a strong and experienced driver line-up to face the challenges of the coming seasons, with the aim of continuing to achieve success in Formula 1
