The Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix was held in Shanghai with a mix of strategies. Following the sprint race, the main race offered numerous position changes and critical moments that influenced the final result.
In the first lap, Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin overtook Sergio Perez of Red Bull, taking second place, while both Ferrari cars lost two positions. Esteban Ocon of Alpine debuted a new floor design in his car, seeking performance improvements in aerodynamics.
Max Verstappen, also from Red Bull, displayed superior performance by extending his lead over second place to more than three seconds on lap three. Perez regained the second position on lap five. In the following laps, there were multiple overtakes and significant changes, such as Charles Leclerc of Ferrari moving up and Lando Norris of McLaren overtaking Alonso for third place.
A critical moment occurred on lap 13, when Verstappen and Perez made extremely quick pit stops, one of the fastest of the season. However, an incident in the pits saw Pierre Gasly of AlphaTauri involved in an accident that resulted in a mechanic being injured.
The race was interrupted by a virtual safety car and then a full safety car due to various incidents on track, including Valtteri Bottas experiencing engine problems causing a yellow flag.
In the final laps, Verstappen managed to maintain the lead followed by Norris and Perez, who completed the podium. Leclerc and Carlos Sainz of Ferrari finished in consecutive positions, showing a partial recovery for Ferrari.
The use of tires was decisive; Alonso attempted an aggressive strategy with soft tires towards the end, but did not significantly improve his position, finishing seventh after having been further ahead during the race. Time penalties for Daniel Ricciardo and Kevin Magnussen affected their final positions.
