Robert Virves turned his third WRC2 start of the 2026 season into his third victory, a perfect record that leaves him just four points behind championship leader Roope Korhonen. Behind the wheel of a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 operated by Toksport, Virves withstood the pressure of two contenders who arrived at the Rally Estonia Power Stage with real chances of snatching the result, and sealed the win by 7.6 seconds over Teemu Suninen and 8.8 seconds over Korhonen himself. The victory gave him 25 points, moving him to second in the overall standings with 75 units, just behind Korhonen, who has 79 points but has contested two more rallies.
Virves had taken the lead on Friday's second stage and from there managed the gap over three days. On Sunday, Korhonen cut the deficit from 10.1 to 5.7 seconds on the first pass through Kääriku, the rally's longest stage at 24.39 kilometres. Virves did not flinch. He stayed calm over the two remaining stages and kept enough margin to celebrate on home soil, where he also received a €25,000 prize from the WRC promoter as the best‑placed local driver. Patrick Enok, sixth in another Skoda, took €15,000 as the second‑best local finisher.
Suninen, who had lost second place in the championship to Virves, secured runner‑up in the rally by beating Korhonen on the Power Stage by just 1.2 seconds. In his Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, he remains third in the standings with 59 points and is still in the title fight. Virves's victory altered the order of a championship that before Estonia had Korhonen at the front thanks to his consistency, but now is completely open heading into the second half of the season.
Emil Lindholm, Virves's teammate at Toksport, finished fourth, 51.3 seconds behind, without getting involved in the fight for the top positions. Mille Johansson, the reigning FIA Junior WRC champion, closed out the top five after inheriting a position from the retirement of Mikko Heikkilä, who broke his right‑front damper after a heavy impact and lost more than four and a half minutes. Lauri Joona was eighth in another Skoda, surpassed by Enok and Karl Martin Volver, who finished sixth and seventh respectively. Romet Jürgenson, ninth, was the best representative of the Ford Fiesta Rally2, and Takumi Matsushita closed out the top ten after Giovanni Trentin suffered a puncture on the Power Stage.
The WRC2 now heads to the Secto Rally Finland, from July 30 to August 2, where Korhonen will race on home soil needing to extend his advantage before the results drop rule favours a Virves who, with fewer starts, has room to score points in the remaining rounds. Suninen, 20 points behind the leader, also arrives with arguments to join the discussion. Finland, with its jumps and blind corners, will punish any mistake just as harshly as Estonia.
