Track activity for the 6 Hours of São Paulo began this Thursday at Interlagos with two free practice sessions that delivered surprising results in the Hypercar category. Genesis Magma Racing finished at the top of the second session, the first time the South Korean manufacturer has led a timesheet since debuting in the championship. In the first session, Aston Martin had been fastest with Harry Tincknell in the Valkyrie 007.
Tincknell stopped the clock at 1:25.457 during a sunny and hot FP1, and that time was enough to leave the Ferrari 499P number 50 of Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen just 24 thousandths behind. Behind them, the other two official Ferraris completed the top five: the 51 of James Calado, Antonio Giovinazzi and Alessandro Pier Guidi was third, 106 thousandths off; the 83 of Robert Kubica, Yifei Ye and Philip Hanson was fourth, 139 thousandths behind; and Alpine placed the A424 number 36 of Frédéric Makowiecki, Jules Gounon and Victor Martins in fifth, 243 thousandths off the pace. The second Alpine, the number 35 of António Félix da Costa, Charles Milesi and Ferdinand Habsburg, finished 14th in that first session.
Genesis Magma Racing had already shown pace in the morning with the GMR 001 number 19 of Mathieu Jaminet, Paul‑Loup Chatin and Dani Juncadella in seventh place, 545 thousandths off, and the number 17 of Pipo Derani, André Lotterer and Mathys Jaubert in ninth, 602 thousandths behind. In LMGT3, Iron Lynx had the best times in the first session with the Mercedes AMG 61 of Maxime Martin, which left the Corvette of Charlie Eastwood more than half a second behind, followed by the BMW number 32 of Augusto Farfus, Sean Gelael and Darren Leung, third with a livery replicating the colours of Brazil.
In the afternoon, Jaminet lowered the morning's best time by more than a second, setting 1:24.271, a lap that took Genesis Magma Racing to the top of the timesheet for the first time. The Aston Martin Valkyrie 009 of Marco Sørensen was 60 thousandths behind, and the 007 of Tincknell, which had led the first session, finished third, 216 thousandths off. Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA placed both its V‑Series.R cars in the top five, with the number 38 of Earl Bamber, Sébastien Bourdais and Jack Aitken fourth, and the 12 of Norman Nato and Will Stevens fifth. Alpine improved with the A424 35, moving from 14th in the morning to sixth in the afternoon.
The GR010 Hybrid number 7 of Toyota, winner at Le Mans less than a month ago, finished 12th in FP1, 762 thousandths off, and 14th in FP2, 863 thousandths behind. The number 8 was 17th and 15th respectively. Toyota has two victories in the last five editions of this race.
In LMGT3, Akkodis ASP claimed the top two positions in FP2 with its Lexus RC F cars. Clemens Schmid set 1:34.498 in the number 87 that he shares with José María López and Petru Umbrarescu, the same car that won here in 2025, and beat the 78 of Tom van Rompuy, Hadrien David and Esteban Masson by 37 thousandths. The Aston Martin Vantage 23 of Heart of Racing Team, with Kobe Pauwels replacing Eduardo Barrichello, was third, 82 thousandths behind.
The final free practice session before qualifying will take place on Saturday at 10:10 local time.
