The WEC published its 2027 calendar with nine rounds, one more than in previous seasons. The additional date is Silverstone, which had not been part of the championship since 2019 and now returns to the schedule. On the Hypercar grid, 14 manufacturers are currently confirmed, with McLaren and Ford joining precisely in 2027.

Silverstone takes the third round of the year

The British race will take place on April 25, between Imola and Spa-Francorchamps, within the European block of four events that closes with the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 13. Silverstone hosted the WEC from 2012 to 2019. The United Kingdom concentrates the engineering centres of several championship teams, and McLaren will compete in Hypercar based in Woking and together with United Autosports.

The rest of the calendar looks like this

Qatar will host the Prologue on March 21-22 and the first race, the 1,812 kilometres, the following weekend. Imola will open the European leg on April 11, Spa-Francorchamps will be held on May 15, and Le Mans is set for June 13. The second half of the year includes Interlagos in July, Austin in September, Fuji at the end of that month, and Bahrain from November 4 to 6 as the season finale, where the titles are awarded and the rookie test takes place.

Bahrain has a contract until 2036

The Sakhir circuit renewed its agreement with the WEC until 2036. It is the venue that has appeared most often on the calendar alongside Spa and Le Mans, since the championship’s first season in 2012. In recent editions, the race has been extended from six to eight hours.

Why the WEC went from eight to nine rounds

The limit of eight rounds was maintained for several years to contain transport and operating costs for the teams. Frédéric Lequien, CEO of the WEC, explained in the official announcement that the expansion responds to the growing popularity of the championship among manufacturers, media and fans. Pierre Fillon, president of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, mentioned the record crowd at Le Mans 2026 as evidence of that trend.
