Kimi Antonelli took pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix in Formula 1 with a lap of 1:12.051 on the final run of Q3. The Italian, championship leader, beat Max Verstappen by 43 thousandths and Lewis Hamilton by two tenths. Charles Leclerc, who had topped Friday's practice sessions with Ferrari, hit the wall on his final attempt and dropped to fourth on the starting grid.

Qualifying in Monte Carlo reshuffled the hierarchy that the first two practice sessions had shown. Ferrari arrived on Saturday with the fastest times of the weekend, but the third practice session already gave signals of a change: Antonelli set a 1:12.720 and topped the timesheet three tenths ahead of Leclerc and Hamilton. The trend was confirmed in the afternoon, when the Monaco circuit demanded pushing to the limit and Antonelli responded better than anyone.

Q3 began with Antonelli at the front and the Ferraris looking for the right moment to put in their decisive lap. Leclerc moved into first place provisionally, but aborted more than one attempt before setting his valid time. In the final minute of the session, after he had already gone down to 1:12.351, he went for an extra tenth and lost the car into the barriers. The yellow flag he caused himself prevented Verstappen, who was on a faster split, from responding to Antonelli's time. The Dutchman ended up 43 thousandths behind in the Red Bull, while Hamilton, who kept Ferrari in the fight, closed out third place two tenths back.

Isack Hadjar completed a solid qualifying session by placing the second Red Bull in fifth position, ahead of George Russell's Mercedes, who never found his teammate's pace and ended up three tenths behind. The McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris lined up seventh and eighth, half a second off the fastest time. Pierre Gasly and Liam Lawson made it into the top ten with Alpine and Racing Bulls.

Qualifying left outside Q3 the two Williams of Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz, 11th and 12th, and Nico Hülkenberg in the Audi, who could not replicate his practice performance and fell in Q2. Franco Colapinto put the Alpine in 14th place, and Arvid Lindblad closed out the top fifteen in the Racing Bulls.

Gabriel Bortoleto, who hit the wall with his Audi in Q1 and damaged the suspension, could not even take part in the second round and will start 16th. The first elimination round also took the two Haas cars of Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman, split by the Cadillac of Sergio Pérez, who finished 18th. The Mexican had said on Friday, after the right‑front brake fire that kept him out of second practice, that he saw possibilities for the team to reach Q2 for the first time this Saturday. His time of 1:14.747 left him 25 thousandths behind Ocon and more than a second off the cut. Valtteri Bottas placed the second Cadillac in 20th position, and the Aston Martins of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll occupied the last two spots on the grid.

The Monaco Grand Prix runs on Sunday at 15:00 local time, 7:00 AM in Mexico City and 10:00 AM in Buenos Aires.
