Kimi Antonelli won a chaotic Miami Grand Prix 2026 to claim his third consecutive victory and extend his championship lead in Formula 1 to 20 points. Antonelli withstood pressure from Lando Norris, who finished second, and managed a race with constant lead changes and penalties that altered the podium order.

Action in Miami began with Saturday's sprint, won by Norris, and on Sunday the race was moved forward three hours due to a threat of rain, but the track stayed dry.

The start was chaos. Max Verstappen, who started from the front row, locked up his brakes into Turn 1 and, in contact with Charles Leclerc, spun 360 degrees, dropping to the back of the pack. Leclerc capitalized on the incident and took the lead, but Antonelli quickly regained the lead with a move into Turn 17 on the third lap. Norris also led the race, and Verstappen began a charge from 16th place.

On lap 4, the drama continued: Isack Hadjar crashed his Red Bull into the wall at Turn 14, and seconds later Pierre Gasly rolled his Alpine after a touch with Liam Lawson. The safety car neutralized the race and teams adjusted their strategies. Verstappen took the opportunity to fit hard tires and pit early, but that left him at the back of the field.

After the restart, the fight for victory centered on Antonelli and Norris. Mercedes extended the leader's first stint to make a single stop and put him on the hard compound for the final phase. McLaren mirrored the plan with Norris, but the gap remained stable around two seconds. Oscar Piastri, in the other McLaren, lurked in third.

In the final third of the race, Antonelli managed his advantage without giving any passing opportunities. Norris had DRS on several laps, but the Mercedes' top speed gave no respite. Piastri, benefiting from Leclerc's troubles, snatched third place on lap 53. A spin by Leclerc into the barriers and a post-race 20‑second penalty for repeatedly exceeding track limits dropped him to eighth place. Verstappen, despite a 5‑second penalty for crossing the pit exit line, held onto fifth.

Antonelli's victory, his third from pole position, marks a streak unseen in the first three Grands Prix of a rookie in the history of the category. Antonelli took advantage of Red Bull's vulnerability and the pressure from McLaren to establish Mercedes as the most consistent car. The Brackley team now has two consecutive wins in Miami and solidifies its lead in the constructors' championship, while McLaren closes the gap thanks to its double podium.

Formula 1 now heads to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix in two weeks, with the championship more open than in previous years.
