Audi unveiled the R26 concept in Munich, introducing red into its corporate palette for the first time since the brand's foundation in 1909. This decision marks a historic break with the traditional silver of the four rings, developed specifically to stand out on the F1 grid.

The visual concept previews the appearance of the actual single-seater without including technical specifications. The presentation establishes the new identity that Audi will use for its debut in the top category.

The four rings will feature selective red for the first time in Audi's corporate history. The decision abandons the silver finish the company used from the Auto Union Silver Arrows of the 1930s to its success at Le Mans with the R8, R10, R15 and R18.

The palette combines silver, black and the new Audi red developed exclusively for motorsport. Massimo Frascella, Creative Director, applied four design principles: clarity, technology, intelligence and emotion, avoiding the excessive ornamentation that characterizes other teams.

The change responds to the need to create a distinct identity on a 10-team grid where every structure seeks visual differentiation. Audi plans to establish a distinctive presence from its debut in 2026.

The presentation coincides with the new 2026 regulations that triple the electrical power until it matches the combustion engine. This transformation towards a true hybrid system aligns with the Volkswagen Group's electrification strategy.

Audi chose 2026 because the change in technical regulations means a reset for all teams. The new rules require completely redesigning engines and chassis, creating similar starting conditions for both existing and new teams.

The brand plans to compete as a "challenger" in 2026-2027, evolve into a "real competitor" in 2028, and fight for championships from 2030. The timeline acknowledges that the Sauber infrastructure requires deep transformation beyond financial investment.

The new visual identity will initially be applied to the F1 team before extending to other corporate products. The definitive single-seater will be revealed in January with the technical solutions developed for the hybrid regulations, followed by public testing in Bahrain during February.
