Lando Norris dominated the 2025 Mexican Grand Prix from pole position to the checkered flag, crossing the finish line with a 28.656-second lead over Charles Leclerc. The victory at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez brings his total to 357 points in the standings, one more than Oscar Piastri.

Four cars arrived side-by-side with Norris defending the lead, Leclerc trying on the inside, Hamilton in the middle, and Verstappen on the outside. Both the Ferrari and Red Bull ended up off the track. Leclerc rejoined ahead but immediately gave the position back to avoid a penalty.

Hamilton's Penalty

The stewards determined that Lewis Hamilton gained an unfair advantage by running wide at turn 4 during his battle with Verstappen on lap 6. The 10-second time penalty was served during his pit stop on lap 24, relegating the Ferrari #44 to the middle of the pack. Hamilton finished eighth, far from his initial expectations starting from third position.

Oliver Bearman executed one of the most notable moves by overtaking Verstappen in the early laps. Bearman capitalized on Verstappen's choice of medium tires for the start and executed a clean pass that put him in fourth place, a position he would successfully defend until the end.

Red Bull Strategy Almost Works

Verstappen extended his first stint on medium tires until lap 28, emerging in third position after the rest of the field had pitted. This tactic allowed him to attack Leclerc in the final laps. With fresher soft tires against Leclerc's worn mediums, Verstappen closed the gap to under a second.

The retirement of Carlos Sainz on lap 67 triggered a Virtual Safety Car. Verstappen had caught Leclerc, but the neutralization froze the positions. When the race resumed on the final lap, there were no overtaking opportunities left.

Mercedes Swaps Positions

George Russell expressed his frustration over the radio after getting stuck behind Kimi Antonelli with Oscar Piastri pressuring from behind. After several laps of negotiation, Mercedes authorized a position swap on lap 52. Russell couldn't catch Bearman, and Antonelli finished sixth ahead of his teammate.

Piastri opted for a second pit stop on lap 48 to fit fresh soft tires. The strategy allowed him to pass Russell on lap 60 and secure fifth place with 10 points, keeping his championship hopes alive.

Haas Scores 14 Points in Mexico

Esteban Ocon completed a productive afternoon for Haas by finishing ninth. Combined with Bearman's fourth place, the American team collected 14 points, closing the gap to Aston Martin in the constructors' championship. Gabriel Bortoleto rounded out the points in tenth place for Kick Sauber.

Three drivers failed to see the checkered flag. Liam Lawson retired on lap 4 due to damage from an early contact. Nico Hulkenberg stopped on lap 24 with power unit issues. Fernando Alonso parked on lap 33 due to brake system failure.

Four Races Remain

Brazil will host the next round on November 9, followed by Las Vegas (November 22), Qatar (November 30), and Abu Dhabi (December 7). With just one point separating Norris from Piastri and Verstappen 36 points behind, the title fight promises to go down to the final race.

McLaren leads the constructors' championship with 713 points. Ferrari is second with 356, followed by Mercedes (355) and Red Bull Racing (346).
