Lando Norris claimed pole position for the Mexican Grand Prix after setting a time of 1:15.586 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Charles Leclerc will accompany the McLaren driver on the front row this Sunday, finishing 0.262 seconds behind in Saturday's qualifying session.
Lewis Hamilton secured third position with the other Ferrari. George Russell will complete the second row with the Mercedes, followed by Max Verstappen with Red Bull. The starting grid differs from what was seen in the first two qualifying rounds, where Isack Hadjar had set the best time in Q1 with Racing Bulls.
Norris Responds at the Decisive Moment
The battle for pole position was decided in the final laps of Q3. Leclerc initially set a time of 1:15.991s, establishing the benchmark to beat. Norris's response came on his second attempt: four tenths faster than the Ferrari's time.
"I don't really know what happened, it felt decent but when I crossed the line and saw 1m 15.5s, I was pleasantly surprised," explained Norris. The time marks his first pole position in several races and gives him a strategic advantage for the race start in Mexico.

Positive Day for Ferrari with Two Cars in the Top 3
Hamilton secured a solid result for the Italian brand by qualifying third. The gap to Norris was 0.352s, placing Ferrari with two cars in the top three positions. Russell qualified fourth with Mercedes, separated by less than half a second from pole.
Verstappen qualified fifth at the Hermanos Rodríguez, a track where he has won five times. Kimi Antonelli placed sixth with the second Mercedes, followed by Carlos Sainz in seventh. The Spanish driver will start from P12 due to a five-place grid penalty carried over from Austin.
Complications for Piastri in Qualifying
Oscar Piastri had problems throughout the session. In Q2, he reported an anomaly with the power unit at turn 5, describing it as "something strange." He finished eighth in the final qualifying classification, 0.588s behind Norris, but will effectively start seventh due to Sainz's penalty.
The difference between the two McLarens was considerable during the three qualifying rounds. Piastri never managed to get close to his teammate's pace, a situation that contrasts with his current lead in the drivers' championship.
Colapinto and Alpine Start from the Back
Franco Colapinto will start from P20 after being eliminated in Q1 with a time of 1:17.670. On his final attempt, he lost control going over the curb at turn 3, forcing him to abort the lap and return to the pits without completing it.
Pierre Gasly qualified P18 with the other Alpine, leaving the French team on the back rows of the grid. Yuki Tsunoda missed out on Q3 by 0.014s, placing P11 with Red Bull. Esteban Ocon finished P12 with Haas, followed by Nico Hulkenberg (P13), Fernando Alonso (P14), and Liam Lawson (P15), who did not complete a representative lap in Q2.
Hadjar and Oliver Bearman rounded out the top 10 with Racing Bulls and Haas respectively. Gabriel Bortoleto qualified P16 with Sauber, followed by Alex Albon in P17 with Williams. Lance Stroll qualified P19 with Aston Martin after aborting his final attempt in Q1.
The race will take place on Sunday at 14:00 local time at the capital city circuit.
