Alpine Endurance Team announced on Monday the signing of António Félix da Costa for its FIA World Endurance Championship program starting in 2026. Da Costa, the 2019-2020 Formula E World Champion, has signed a multi-year contract with the French team.

Proven Endurance Experience

The 34-year-old Da Costa brings proven endurance experience with three wins and 15 podiums in 33 WEC races. He won the LMP2 title and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2022, and contributed to the Hypercar World Teams' Championship with Hertz Team JOTA in 2023.

"Returning to the FIA World Endurance Championship was one of my main goals," Da Costa stated in a release. "Alpine has been competing at a very high level, and they recently achieved their first victory with the A424."

The announcement comes weeks after Alpine secured its first WEC victory at the 6 Hours of Fuji Speedway. Charles Milesi, Ferdinand Habsburg, and Paul-Loup Chatin won the race by 7.6 seconds in front of 66,400 Japanese fans, thanks to a strategy that changed only two tires at the final pit stop.

Alpine developed the A424 Hypercar to compete in the top category of the WEC, facing manufacturers like Ferrari, Porsche, Toyota, and Cadillac. The victory at Fuji demonstrated the potential of the French prototype after several podiums during the 2025 season.

Career Across Multiple Categories

Beyond his endurance experience, Da Costa has established himself as a prominent figure in Formula E. He was crowned world champion in 2019-2020 and led the most recent Season 10, where he won more races than any other driver. He has also competed successfully in DTM.

Backing from the Alpine Team

Philippe Sinault, team principal of Alpine Endurance Team, has known Da Costa since Formula 3. "António has always known how to get the best out of his car," explained Sinault. "His presence has left its mark on every team and category he has raced in."

Nicolas Lapierre, sporting director of Alpine Endurance Team, valued Da Costa's profile. "His track record across multiple categories speaks for itself, and we know he will bring a lot to the team," stated Lapierre.

Da Costa tested the A424 on Monday at the Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans, completing his first session with the prototype. He will participate in the Bahrain Rookie Tests on November 9th as preparation before his official debut with Alpine in Qatar at the end of March 2026.

The contract allows Da Costa to maintain his commitment with Jaguar Racing in Formula E, where he will replace Nick Cassidy for the season starting in December in São Paulo. Several WEC drivers compete simultaneously in Formula E, alternating between both championships.

Future for Mick Schumacher

Da Costa's signing comes as the future of Mick Schumacher for 2026 remains unconfirmed officially. Schumacher has achieved podiums at Fuji, Imola, and Spa-Francorchamps with Alpine during 2025, but has been in talks with McLaren and participated in an IndyCar test with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in October.
