One day after crashing his Mercedes in FP2, George Russell clocked a 1:29.158 in Q3 to secure pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix. Russell finished ahead of Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri in a qualifying session where Mercedes found competitive speed under the Marina Bay lights.

Russell brushed the wall at turn 17 during his first Q3 attempt, but extracted an additional seven thousandths of a second on his second lap to take his second pole of the year. The first came in Canada back in June.

"Yesterday was a very challenging day for many different reasons, but it's good to bounce back and get a good result today," stated Russell. "I knew there was potential in the car. Kimi did an incredible job all weekend and I actually gained a lot from seeing what he was able to do yesterday afternoon."

Kimi Antonelli complemented Mercedes' work by qualifying fourth. Antonelli salvaged a setback in Q2 when the stewards deleted his first lap time for exceeding track limits at turn 2. His immediate response secured his passage into the final pole position battle.

Verstappen Second with Piastri Outqualifying Norris

Verstappen finished second, but expressed frustration over the radio at the end of Q3. Verstappen claims he encountered Norris on a cool-down lap during his final attempt, which compromised his performance. Red Bull Racing ended up two tenths behind Mercedes.

Piastri secured third on the grid, two places ahead of Norris. The championship leader qualified fifth in a session where McLaren had the pace to fight further up. The gap between the two was minimal, but grid position can make a big difference at Marina Bay.

Lewis Hamilton led the Ferrari charge in sixth place, ahead of Charles Leclerc. Leclerc saved his qualifying with a decisive lap in Q2 after hitting the wall at turn 14, which had placed him in the elimination zone before his final attempt.

Hadjar Achieves Best Qualifying on Street Circuit

Isack Hadjar placed Racing Bulls in eighth position, his best result in Singapore. Hadjar maintained consistent pace throughout all three qualifying phases. Ollie Bearman took ninth place for Haas, while Fernando Alonso completed the top 10 for Aston Martin.

Nico Hulkenberg missed out on Q3 in eleventh for Kick Sauber. Leclerc displaced him with his rescue lap in the final moments of Q2. Albon qualified 12th, and Sainz 13th for Williams.

Liam Lawson made it to Q2 in 14th position after crashing in both FP2 and FP3. Racing Bulls repaired the car in time to allow him to complete qualifying. Yuki Tsunoda finished 15th for Red Bull Racing, unable to find the necessary rhythm on the street circuit.

Gasly Stops with Hydraulic Issue in Q1

Pierre Gasly brought out yellow flags in the final minutes of Q1 when his Alpine stopped at turn 11 due to an apparent hydraulic issue. The interruption affected several drivers on their flying laps. Gasly qualified last.

Gabriel Bortoleto was eliminated in 16th position for Kick Sauber, missing out on advancement by hundredths. Lance Stroll qualified 17th for Aston Martin, far from Alonso's pace. Franco Colapinto of Alpine was 18th, and Esteban Ocon of Haas was 19th.

The grid could see minor adjustments in the coming hours. Stewards are investigating a technical irregularity with the Williams rear wing, although Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz qualified outside the top 10.

The Singapore Grand Prix starts on Sunday at 20:00 local time in Marina Bay.
