Will Stevens, Alex Lynn, and Norman Nato won the 6 Hours of São Paulo with the #12 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA, securing the American manufacturer's first victory in the WEC. The trio led a Cadillac 1-2 at Interlagos, breaking Ferrari's monopoly in 2025.
This result comes after Ferrari had won the first four races of the season: Qatar, Imola, Spa, and Le Mans. Cadillac not only achieved its first victory since joining WEC in 2023 but also became the first non-Italian manufacturer to win this year.
Alex Lynn takes lead after tire pressure drive-through
Stevens faced a penalty for a tire pressure infringement during the first hour, forcing him to serve a drive-through that compromised the #12's early aspirations. Alex Lynn took over the car and managed to consolidate Cadillac's lead after four hours of racing.
The two gold Cadillacs maintained a 1-2 position at mid-race, with Lynn leading and Jenson Button second in the #38. Button initially closed the gap to the leader before the margin stabilized, while both Cadillacs maintained a 30-second advantage over the Porsche #5 driven by Michael Christensen.
The second factory Porsche with Kévin Estre completed the top four after four hours, though the Frenchman received a five-second penalty for a pit procedure infringement that didn't cost him positions.
Malthe Jakobsen puts Peugeot #94 in fifth
Team Peugeot TotalEnergies managed to place the #94 in fifth position with Malthe Jakobsen at the wheel after four hours, capitalizing on Estre's penalty to close in on the second factory Porsche. The second 9X8 with Paul di Resta ran sixth, ahead of the BMW #20 driven by Marco Wittmann at mid-race.
The Ferrari 499Ps were already showing difficulties halfway through the event. The championship-leading #51 sat ninth after four hours, while the #50 had lost time due to contact with Ben Keating in the #33 TF Sport Corvette, which earned the American a ten-second penalty.
Clemens Schmid leads LMGT3 in Lexus #87
The two Lexus cars from Akkodis ASP Team were narrowly leading the LMGT3 class after four hours, with Clemens Schmid ahead in the #87 followed by Yuichi Nakayama in the sister car. José María López had extended the #87's advantage in the early stages, but a pitlane speeding penalty reduced the gap between the two Lexus entries.
Third place was held by the #85 Iron Dames Porsche, where Célia Martin had completed her best WEC stints after passing the #61 Iron Lynx Mercedes of Martin Berry. Eduardo Barrichello impressed the Brazilian crowd with several overtaking moves in the #10 Racing Spirit of Léman Aston Martin, climbing to fourth place.
Norman Nato wins with 57-second margin
Norman Nato took over the Cadillac #12 with a lead of just over 20 seconds on Sébastien Bourdais in the second Cadillac. The Frenchman managed the gap to the checkered flag, crossing the line 57 seconds clear of the sister car shared by Earl Bamber, Jenson Button, and Bourdais.
The podium was completed by the Porsche #5 from Penske Motorsport, driven by Julien Andlauer and Michael Christensen. The German squad had led the early stages with Andlauer, who built an initial 4.5-second advantage before the Cadillacs took definitive control in the second round of pit stops.
Ferrari 499P scores no points due to Balance of Performance
The Ferrari 499Ps faced significant difficulties at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace after receiving a double adjustment in the Balance of Performance before the race. The #83 from AF Corse salvaged eighth place with Phil Hanson, Robert Kubica, and Yifei Ye, while the factory #51 and #50 cars finished outside constructor points.
The championship-leading trio of James Calado, Alessandro Pier Guidi, and Antonio Giovinazzi finished 11th, one position behind the sister car of Nicklas Nielsen, Antonio Fuoco, and Miguel Molina. Pier Guidi received a drive-through penalty in the final hour for a move on Nicolas Varrone during a position battle.
Toyota GR010 HYBRID scores no points for first time since 2021
Toyota failed to score points with either car for the first time in the Hypercar era that began in 2021. The GR010 HYBRIDs lacked pace at a circuit where they had dominated 12 months prior, affected by the new Balance of Performance and the Interlagos resurfacing done before the 2024 Formula 1 race.
Mike Conway, Nyck de Vries, and Kamui Kobayashi finished 14th, while Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa came home 15th. The more restrictive BoP combined with the new track conditions eliminated the advantage they had enjoyed in the previous edition.
José María López wins LMGT3 with Lexus #87
José María López, Clemens Schmid, and Razvan Umbrarescu secured Lexus' first victory in the LMGT3 class. The #87 Akkodis ASP Team trio led for most of the race and won by 37.716 seconds despite a pitlane speeding penalty.
Charlie Eastwood put the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R from TF Sport into second place during the final 10 minutes, passing Michelle Gatting in the Porsche 911 GT3-R from Iron Dames. Eduardo Barrichello completed the podium in the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 from Racing Spirit of Leman, snatching third from Gatting with less than three minutes remaining.
Next round at COTA on September 7
The WEC continues on September 7 at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. In 2024, the yellow #83 Ferrari won at the American circuit, the same car that finished eighth in São Paulo with Hanson, Kubica, and Ye. Cadillac will look to maintain its momentum on North American soil after breaking Ferrari's streak in Brazil.
