Sarah Bovy will replace Michelle Gatting in the Porsche 911 GT3 R #85 of Iron Dames for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, after the Danish driver suffered multiple foot fractures during the Test Day.
The incident occurred during a routine driver change when the Porsche landed on Gatting's foot in the congested pitlane following a red flag.
The full account of the accident
Gatting explained that the parking position wasn't ideal due to the sister Porsche ahead and an Alpine behind. "We had to put the car on skates and move it slightly. We followed all procedures calmly, without pressure from anyone," said the official Porsche driver.
At that moment, unfortunately the team released the car and it landed on my foot. It was pure bad luck, no one is to blame
The Danish driver, with hundreds of driver changes in her career, described the situation as "extremely unfortunate." The chassis impacted directly on the center of her foot, fracturing it in three places, unlike other cases where only the toes are affected.
Bovy returns with proven experience
The experienced Belgian driver is no stranger to either Iron Dames or Le Mans. Bovy was part of the historic female victory at Bahrain 2023, the final race of the LMGTE Am era in WEC, alongside Gatting and Frey.
Her four previous participations at La Sarthe include two consecutive top-five finishes in the most recent editions. She will now share the wheel of the Porsche with Frey and Célia Martin in the fourth round of the 2025 World Endurance Championship.
Lost preparation and future goals
Gatting revealed she had reached her peak physical condition for this edition after becoming an official Porsche driver. "I knew I was going to Le Mans with the best possible Porsche team, which motivated me to prepare extra. I had never been lighter for Le Mans."
The driver admitted she woke up aware of having missed a great opportunity. "If the team achieves a good result this time, I don't know if I could ever top it," she confessed.
Her return is scheduled for the European Le Mans Series round at Imola on July 6. Gatting, Bovy and Martin currently lead the LMGT3 standings in ELMS, a championship they will continue fighting for.
Iron Dames finished fifth in class at the 2024 Le Mans edition with the Lamborghini Huracán, before switching to Porsche for this season.

I’ve had a passion for motorsport since my childhood. Even as a child, I used to often have a camera between my hands. Later, I professionalized in the audiovisual field and then the idea to mix these two passions for racing and photography came up. Now, I mainly cover WEC and endurance racing, but also local hillclimb events.
