The FIA and Formula 1 have officially unveiled the 2026 calendar with a change that breaks decades of tradition: the Canadian Grand Prix will be held on May 25th, coinciding with the Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend.
Monaco loses its historic overlap with the world's most famous oval race, surrendering that date to Montreal. The change completely reorganizes the European sequence in the 24-race calendar that will run from March to December.
Madrid joins as second Spanish venue
Madrid makes its F1 World Championship debut on the weekend of September 11-13, joining Barcelona as the second Spanish city on the calendar. The Madrid circuit will be strategically placed before the Asian return with Azerbaijan and Singapore.
Barcelona-Catalunya maintains its June date (12-14), but now forms part of a concentrated European sequence that begins with Monaco on June 5th. The reorganization allows for more efficient geographical flow between European venues.
New manufacturers join the championship
Audi, Cadillac, and Ford confirm their arrival as new entrants for 2026, expanding brand diversity in the category. These three manufacturers will coincide with the implementation of 100% sustainable fuel and completely revamped technical regulations.
The arrival of American manufacturers comes as the United States will host three consecutive races: Austin (October 23-25), followed by Mexico (October 30-November 1) and Brazil (November 6-8).
Asia opens, Middle East adjusts
Australia (March 6-8), China (March 13-15), and Japan (March 27-29) will maintain the Asian opening before moving to the Middle East. Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were scheduled for April due to the Ramadan period during the year's first months.
The calendar concludes with the usual sequence of Las Vegas (November 19-21), Qatar (November 27-29), and Abu Dhabi (December 4-6), maintaining the Persian Gulf closing format.
Logistical efficiency drives changes
The proximity between Miami (May 1-3) and Montreal (May 22-24) allows equipment to be transported directly between both venues, creating operational savings. This optimization is part of the sustainability strategy that includes renewable fuel.
"We will witness a completely new set of regulations for our sport, with cars and engines running on 100% sustainable fuel," explained Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA president, highlighted that "the arrival of iconic brands like Audi, Cadillac, and Ford" marks "a new era of innovation and competition" for the championship.
