On Sunday, May 4, 2025, LEGO and Formula 1 held a joint presentation at the Miami Grand Prix. All 20 drivers from the category participated in the demonstration lap aboard fully functional LEGO cars, representing the ten current teams on the grid.
Construction and technical features
The replicas were built by a team of 26 specialists who worked for over 22,000 hours. Each vehicle contains approximately 400,000 LEGO pieces, weighs 1,500 kg (1,000 kg from blocks alone), and can reach a top speed of 20 km/h.
The cars maintain the proportions of the original models. The construction team successfully reproduced the details of the single-seaters, including sponsor logos and incorporating original Pirelli competition tires.
Collaborative project
These vehicles were designed based on the LEGO F1 Speed Champions collection released late last year. The Miami presentation is part of scheduled activities for 2025 between LEGO and Formula 1.
"At LEGO, we're always looking to explore new possibilities," said Julia Goldin, LEGO's Chief Product and Marketing Officer. "This collaboration between LEGO, Formula 1 and its ten teams demonstrates our potential. Large-scale builds generate interest among fans, and the response after presenting all ten simultaneously has been positive. We hope these creations show that with imagination and LEGO bricks, anything is possible."
Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer of Formula 1, commented: "As an innovation-related activity, it was interesting to see something new in our sport when the builds drove around the track piloted by the drivers. Our partnership with LEGO allows us to include different elements in the Grand Prix experience and attract new audiences. We'll continue exploring joint ideas."
International exhibition
Following the Miami Grand Prix, the ten LEGO cars will begin a world tour, with appearances at upcoming races and events on the F1 calendar. Those interested can find more information at LEGO.com/F1.
