Porsche Lighter for the Imola 6 Hours of WEC 2025

963 LMDh to run 11kg lighter as Ferrari defends Qatar treble

The World Endurance Championship (WEC) returns this weekend after a one-month break with the 6 Hours of Imola , the second round of the 2025 season to be held on Sunday, April 20. The Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit will host a special race for Ferrari , who will aim to maintain their dominant form in front of their home crowd after sweeping the podium with their three 499P LMH cars in the season opener in Qatar.

Ferrari under pressure at home

The Italian manufacturer faces this event with a technical handicap , as their prototypes will carry 8kg extra weight compared to Qatar and 4kg more than in the 2024 edition of this race, where they came close to victory until a tactical error during rain. As compensation, they've received a 7kW power increase .

This race will also mark the European debut of the Aston Martin Valkyrie with its naturally aspirated V12 engine , a car still in development after a troubled debut that will now face a 9kg increase in minimum weight .

Balance of Performance adjustments

Porsche has received the largest weight reduction for Imola. Their 963 LMDh will compete 11kg lighter than in the opening race, setting a weight of 1053kg , though this figure remains 20kg higher than their 2024 specification for the Italian event. Their maximum power has been reduced by 5kW (6.7hp) .

This adjustment comes at a critical time for Porsche Penske Motorsport , who had a disappointing start in defending their drivers' title with their two factory cars finishing 10th and 11th in Qatar, far from expectations after achieving second and third positions last year in Imola.

Manufacturer Model Weight adjustment Power change
Alpine A424 LMDh -2kg -
Peugeot 9X8 2024 -1kg 520kW (697hp)
Cadillac - +11kg +7kW (9.4hp)
Toyota GR010 HYBRID LMH - -3kW (4hp)
BMW - +5kg +8kW (10.7hp)

LMGT3: Valentino Rossi returns to his lucky track

The LMGT3 category will feature a special protagonist in Valentino Rossi , who returns to the circuit where he made his GT racing debut in 2021. The Italian will aim to repeat his 2024 podium with the BMW #46 from Team WRT .

Other notable entries include the Ferraris from AF Corse racing at home, the Corvettes from TF Sport , the Lexus cars from Akkodis-ASP team, and entries from Aston Martin, Ford and McLaren .

I’ve had a passion for motorsport since my childhood. Even as a child, I used to often have a camera between my hands. Later, I professionalized in the audiovisual field and then the idea to mix these two passions for racing and photography came up. Now, I mainly cover WEC and endurance racing, but also local hillclimb events.
