The 2025 World Endurance Championship kicks off its season with the 1812KM of Qatar, the first event on the calendar at the Lusail International Circuit. The competition will mark the debut of the Aston Martin Valkyrie in the Hypercar class and the return of Mercedes-AMG to LMGT3. After the 2025 WEC Prologue, teams have their first references to adjust strategies before the race.
How Teams Are Shaping Up for the Qatar 1812KM
Dutch driver Robin Frijns set the fastest time in the 2025 WEC Prologue with the BMW M Hybrid V8 from BMW M Team WRT, clocking 1m38.971s. Sébastien Bourdais (Cadillac) and Robert Kubica (Ferrari) were very close, finishing less than two-tenths of a second behind. Toyota showed competitiveness in long runs but did not lead any session in Lusail. Porsche faced difficulties during testing due to an engine change in their 963 Hypercar.
LMGT3: Ferrari Leads, But Faces Strong Competition
In LMGT3, Vista AF Corse achieved the two best times with the Ferrari 296 LMGT3, thanks to Simon Mann and Francesco Castellacci, who were separated by just 20 milliseconds. In 2024, the Manthey PureRxcing team (Porsche #92) took the title, with the trio Alexander Malykhin - Joel Sturm - Klaus Bachler leading the drivers' standings. Porsche also had a strong second team, Manthey EMA (Porsche #91), which finished with 105 points. This season, Mercedes-AMG returns to LMGT3, but in the Prologue, their pace was behind Ferrari and Corvette. Aston Martin, Lexus, and McLaren were also competitive in testing, leaving the category wide open for a fierce battle.
