Jesse Love took the United Rentals 300, opening the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season at Daytona International Speedway. Love crossed the finish line in first place after an overtime, just before a multi-car incident behind him brought out the yellow flag that ended the race.
The Richard Childress Racing driver celebrated on the roof of his No. 2 Chevrolet, joined by his team on the circuit’s infield. Love led for 30 laps and held his position during the final restarts.
"This result is the product of the work of many people who have been by my side. We’re making progress at RCR and we’re going to give our best this season. I’m ready for the next race in Atlanta," Love said.
Mechanical Issues Slow Down Austin Hill
Austin Hill dominated the early stages of the race, leading 56 of the first 82 laps. However, a problem in his No. 21 Chevrolet emerged after the second break. Hill reported smoke inside the cockpit, and his team confirmed the failure after inspecting the engine in the garage.
"It’s frustrating because the car was really well-prepared. Now we’re focusing on what’s next. Atlanta will be a great opportunity to get back on track," Hill said.
Final Battle and Strong Showing from Rookies
In the final stretch, Love held firm against Sheldon Creed and Sam Mayer, who finished second and third. Rookies Carson Kvapil and Taylor Gray completed the top five. However, several newcomers, including Daniel Dye, Connor Zilisch, and Christian Eckes, were knocked out after incidents in the final laps.
Next Stop: Atlanta
The race featured 11 different leaders and 24 lead changes. Harrison Burton finished sixth, followed by Jordan Anderson, Dean Thompson, Jeremy Clements, and Patrick Emerling. The NASCAR Xfinity Series will continue next week at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
