PREMA Racing has announced the addition of Robert Shwartzman to their team for the 2025 season of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. The 25-year-old driver returns to single-seaters to join the team, powered by Chevrolet, for their debut in the competitive American series.
The Israeli driver returns to PREMA, a team with which he has had a noteworthy career. In 2018, he debuted in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship with PREMA, finishing third overall and as the best rookie of the year. In 2019, he won the first season of the revamped Formula 3. Later, in Formula 2, he achieved six victories and 14 podiums over two seasons, finishing as runner-up in 2021.
Shwartzman has gained experience in various categories. In 2022, he was a test driver for Scuderia Ferrari, participating in multiple test sessions and contributing to the simulator. In 2023, he served as a reserve driver for Ferrari and competed in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup. Additionally, he was part of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the Ferrari 499P, achieving a victory at the Lone Star Le Mans in Austin. In 2024, he participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, further solidifying his endurance racing experience.
The season in INDYCAR will be a new challenge for Shwartzman, who will team up with his former teammate Callum Ilott. Adapting to the American circuits, including ovals, will be crucial for the driver, though his background in single-seaters and endurance racing could support this process.
Rene Rosin, PREMA Racing team owner, commented on Shwartzman's return: "We are very happy to welcome Robert back to PREMA. We have experienced great seasons together, and his talent has always been evident. Working together, we are confident we can face the learning curve ahead of us."
Piers Phillips, CEO of PREMA Racing INDYCAR, stated: "Having Robert completes our lineup for the debut season. He has been competitive in every championship he has participated in, and his adaptability will be key to accelerating our learning as a team. We look forward to starting work with Robert, Callum, and Chevrolet."
Shwartzman stated: "I am very happy to return to PREMA and start this new adventure in INDYCAR. It will be a different experience, but we have a good group, and I am confident we can adapt quickly. I have never raced on ovals, and mastering them will be a significant challenge, but we achieved a lot with PREMA in the past, and I believe my experience in Formula 1 and endurance racing will help us get up to speed."
