Porsche has revealed the new 99X Electric, its single-seater for the next two Formula E seasons. This vehicle complies with the regulations of the third generation of electric cars, known as GEN3 Evo, and is equipped with improvements developed by Porsche's internal team. The goal is to optimize both the efficiency and performance of the car on the track.
On October 24, the official presentation of the 99X Electric was held in a video featuring Bruno Correia, Formula E safety car driver. The main innovations include front-wheel drive activation, a modified front wing for greater stability, and new higher-performance tires.
Technical Improvements of the 99X Electric
One of the most important innovations is the inclusion of all-wheel drive at specific moments, such as qualifying duels, attack mode, and race starts. Thanks to this system, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately two seconds.
The new Hankook tires offer better grip, improving performance in both dry and wet conditions. For each race weekend, teams will only have two sets of tires available (three in case of double-header events), increasing the challenge of resource management.
Visually, the 99X Electric adopts a new color scheme: Purple Sky Metallic and Shade Green Metallic, inspired by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, one of the brand's most powerful models. These colors replace the traditional combination of black, white, and red.
Teams and Drivers
The official TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E team will again feature Pascal Wehrlein, last season's champion, and António Félix da Costa. Additionally, the customer team Andretti Formula E will continue using the Porsche 99X Electric, with Jake Dennis and Nico Müller behind the wheel.
Porsche has achieved significant success in the past two seasons with this model. Wehrlein and Dennis were crowned champions in the 2023/2024 and 2022/2023 seasons, respectively. With this evolution of the 99X Electric, Porsche aims to maintain its competitive performance, thanks to the implemented improvements.
