In November 2024, Formula E will conduct an exclusive test for women drivers, an unprecedented event in the history of FIA championships. This test will take place on November 7th at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, during the pre-season of the electric car category.

Opportunity for women drivers

The test will provide participants with the chance to drive the new GEN3 Evo, a car capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.82 seconds, 30% faster than a current Formula 1 car. Each of the 11 Formula E teams will be required to present at least one female driver, although they are encouraged to include two.

This event aims to open new doors for women in a sport dominated by men, with only 3% of top-tier racing licenses worldwide held by women, according to FIA data. The women drivers will be on equal footing with their male colleagues, using the same vehicle as the competitors in the series.

Beyond the test

The goal of this initiative is not just to offer an isolated opportunity. During the event, the women drivers will also participate in various media activities, including interviews and photo sessions, aiming to increase their visibility in the sports field and capture the attention of new generations of women interested in motorsport. Formula E continues its long-term commitment to reducing the barriers that have limited women's participation in this sport.

Future actions

In addition to the test, other programs are being implemented to promote inclusion, such as the expansion of the FIA Girls on Track program, which will allow 400 young women to interact with the drivers in Valencia and participate in workshops focused on careers within motorsport. More opportunities are also being created for women within the teams, through simulators, technical support, and holistic training to develop the next generation of drivers.
