Cole Custer secured the regular season title in the NASCAR Xfinity Series after winning the last race at Bristol. A poor performance by Justin Allgaier, who came into the race with a comfortable 43-point lead, allowed Custer to seize the opportunity and finish the regular season at the top.
During the race, Allgaier was comfortably leading until an accident with Austin Green's car ripped off the rear of his vehicle. Despite his team's efforts to repair the damage, his night worsened with a crash into the wall following another incident with Sheldon Creed. From that point on, Allgaier was several laps down, sealing his fate.
On the other hand, Custer maintained a solid pace after overcoming his initial issues and crossed the finish line 1.1 seconds ahead of Sheldon Creed. This result gave him both the race win and the regular season championship, securing additional points for the playoffs. Custer stated that the title gives him an important boost heading into the upcoming rounds.
Allgaier, frustrated after losing the lead
Justin Allgaier could not hide his frustration after multiple setbacks ruined his night. "We did everything right in the beginning, but the incidents knocked us out," Allgaier commented after the race, lamenting the loss of the championship by just three points. Despite the disappointment, Allgaier will enter the playoffs as the top seed.
Playoff qualifiers
With Custer's win and Allgaier's misfortune, the stage is set for the playoffs. Parker Kligerman and Sammy Smith joined the other ten drivers who had already secured their spots. Among them are names like Austin Hill, Chandler Smith, Shane van Gisbergen, Jesse Love, Sam Mayer, Riley Herbst, Sheldon Creed, and A.J. Allmendinger, all of whom will compete for the series title in the upcoming rounds.
