Prema Racing announced that Callum Ilott will be their driver for the 2025 IndyCar season. This will be the Italian team's debut in the American series, with a driver who has experience in the category. Ilott, who previously competed with Juncos Hollinger Racing, will bring his knowledge after accumulating 38 races in IndyCar, along with his experience in endurance championships.
A return to the Prema family
The 25-year-old Briton is no stranger to Prema, as he was part of the team in 2017 during the European Formula 3 Championship, where he stood out with several victories and pole positions. The team is confident that this partnership will be fruitful due to Ilott's prior experience and his recent performance in endurance racing, particularly his victory in the 6 Hours of Spa in the Hypercar category with Team Jota.
A transition year for Ilott
After leaving Juncos Hollinger Racing at the end of 2023, Ilott competed in the World Endurance Championship with Team Jota, keeping himself active in international motorsport. He also filled in for Arrow McLaren in two IndyCar races, including a notable performance at the Indianapolis 500, where he finished in 11th place. Now, with Prema, Ilott aims to consolidate his position in IndyCar for 2025.
Prema's first IndyCar season
Prema's entry into IndyCar marks a new challenge for the team, known for its success in categories such as Formula 2 and Formula 3. Rene Rosin, the team's boss, expressed his satisfaction at having Ilott back, emphasizing the importance of his experience in both single-seaters and endurance racing. Although the car number Ilott will use has not yet been confirmed, the team has revealed they will compete with numbers 83 and 90.
Expectations for 2025
With Prema's arrival in IndyCar, both the team and Ilott will look to quickly adapt to the series' competitive calendar. The combination of Prema's European experience and Ilott's knowledge of the American tracks will be crucial for their success in their debut season.
