Formula E will move its race in Saudi Arabia from Diriyah to a shorter version of the Jeddah Corniche circuit, traditionally used for Formula 1. This move has been approved by the Saudi Ministry of Sports, and the event is scheduled for February 14 and 15, 2025, subject to approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council in October this year.

Change from Diriyah to Jeddah: Implications for Formula E

The switch from the Diriyah street circuit, host since 2018, to Jeddah involves a new technical adaptation for electric single-seaters. The Jeddah Corniche circuit is known for its speed and 27 corners that make it challenging for Formula 1. However, for Formula E, a shorter layout will be used, although the exact specifications have not yet been revealed. This adjustment will be key to ensuring that electric cars can make the most of the track without compromising the race format.

Adaptations of the Jeddah Circuit for Formula E

The Jeddah Corniche circuit has been one of the fastest tracks on the Formula 1 calendar, but Formula E requires a shorter and more technical design due to the characteristics of electric vehicles. The final layout is still unknown, but it is expected to retain the original circuit's flow while adapting to the series' needs. This could include reducing the number of corners or modifying braking and acceleration zones to optimize the efficiency of the single-seaters.

The Regional Impact of the Move to Jeddah

Saudi Arabia has played a significant role in the growth of motorsport in the region, and the move of Formula E to Jeddah is another example of this expansion. By using an iconic circuit like Jeddah Corniche, Formula E has the opportunity to attract a broader and more diverse audience, reinforcing the country's importance in the championship calendar. Moreover, Jeddah's infrastructure is already prepared to host large international events, which facilitates logistics and enhances the experience for fans.
