For the first time in its modern history, the NASCAR Cup Series will hold a points race outside the United States. The event is scheduled for June 15, 2025, at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, located in Mexico City. The announcement was made during a press conference at the same circuit, attended by Ben Kennedy, NASCAR Executive Vice President, and Daniel Suárez, Cup Series driver.
Race Weekend in Mexico
The race weekend will kick off on June 14 with the NASCAR Xfinity Series, also set to take place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Both events will be broadcast live, with the Cup Series on Prime Video and the Xfinity Series on The CW. Including Mexico in the NASCAR Cup Series calendar reflects the organization’s interest in exploring new markets and expanding its global presence.
NASCAR in Mexico
While this will be the first time the Cup Series holds a points race in Mexico, NASCAR has a long history in the country. Between 2005 and 2008, the Xfinity Series raced at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, and today, the NASCAR Mexico Series remains active, concluding its 2024 season at this circuit on November 3. Additionally, the track’s altitude of 2,238 meters above sea level presents a unique challenge for teams and drivers due to the thinner air.
The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez
The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, a 4.304-kilometer circuit with 17 turns, has hosted international competitions since its construction in 1959, including the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix. The circuit was remodeled in 2015 and is known for its challenging design and popularity among motorsport fans.
New Horizons for NASCAR
With this race, NASCAR returns to Mexico after more than a decade and prepares for future international expansions. The interest in taking the Cup Series beyond U.S. borders demonstrates the organization’s intent to diversify and grow on the global stage.
NASCAR fans in Mexico will have the opportunity to experience an event that will capture the attention of followers across the country. The combination of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez's history and NASCAR ensures a unique weekend.
