Toyota will face changes in Austin
Toyota, along with other manufacturers, is facing changes in the Balance of Performance (BoP) for the upcoming World Endurance Championship race in Austin. These adjustments, made in response to the results of the previous round in Brazil, could significantly influence vehicle performance during the competition at the Circuit of the Americas on September 1.
BoP Changes: Impact on Teams
Toyota adjusts its strategy
After their victory in Brazil, Toyota Gazoo Racing has been penalized with a reduction in power and an increase in weight for their GR010 HYBRID. The base power will be reduced by 9kW, while the minimum vehicle weight will increase by 5kg. However, the Japanese cars will receive a slight relief with a 4.6% power increase when exceeding 250km/h, which could help them maintain competitiveness on the long straights of Austin.
Porsche also faces adjustments
Porsche, which finished second in Brazil, will also face restrictions in Austin. The power of their 963 LMDh will be reduced by 3kW, and the car's weight will increase by 2kg. This adjustment affects not only the factory Porsche Penske Motorsport team but also the customer teams Jota and Proton.
Ferrari adjusts its performance
The Ferrari team, which managed no better than a fifth-place finish in Brazil, has received a slight reduction of 5kg in the minimum weight of their 499P LMH. Despite this, they will also suffer a 3kW loss in base power, which could complicate their performance in Austin.
Peugeot, BMW, Lamborghini, Alpine, and Cadillac adjust their performance
Each of these manufacturers has received specific adjustments that could alter their performance on the track. Peugeot has been one of the biggest beneficiaries with a 14kg reduction in their 9X8 LMH, although they will also lose 1kW in power. BMW, on the other hand, will run 7kg lighter with a 1kW gain. Lamborghini, Alpine, and Cadillac will experience minor adjustments that could still have an impact during the race.
