Conor Daly, with 110 races in his IndyCar career, has been confirmed to drive the No. 78 car for Juncos Hollinger Racing in the final five rounds of the 2024 season. Daly will replace Agustín Canapino, who left the team after a series of unfavorable results that have jeopardized the team's position in the standings.
Canapino and the team mutually decided to part ways after the Argentine driver finished 18th or worse in five consecutive races, putting the team in 23rd position.
Daly, a native of Noblesville, Indiana, had already tested the car on the 1.25-mile oval at Gateway, near St. Louis, and achieved the fourth-fastest time in the test despite facing gearbox issues. This will be Daly's eleventh time competing with a different team in the IndyCar Series.
In addition to his participation in IndyCar, Daly has also been competing in other motorsport disciplines in 2024. He has raced in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with Niece Motorsports, participating in several races, including Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, Kansas Speedway, and Homestead-Miami Speedway. He also made an appearance in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with Sam Hunt Racing, showcasing his versatility as a driver.
"It’s a pleasure to work with Ricardo Juncos again after our achievements in the Road to Indy," said Daly. "Ricardo took a chance on me when I was young, which made a huge difference in my career. I know several people on this team, which gives me confidence to take on the challenge of securing the necessary points to keep the No. 78 car within the Leaders Circle."
Ricardo Juncos also expressed his satisfaction with working with Daly again. "Having Conor back in a JHR car after so many years brings back good memories, but now it’s time to focus on what’s ahead and aim for solid results in the remainder of the season."
