For the eighth round of the NASCAR México Series, which will be held at the Ecocentro de Querétaro on August 11, drivers will have the option to choose whether to restart from the inside or outside lane. Pavel Fernández, Race Director of the NASCAR México Series, confirmed this new rule that aims to align with NASCAR regulations and enhance the experience for both competitors and fans.

Implementation of the Rule in NASCAR México Series

The "choose rule" was introduced in NASCAR in the United States in 2020 and allows drivers to choose their lane before a restart, leveling the strategic opportunities. This rule was first tested during the All-Star Race at Bristol Motor Speedway and was well received by drivers and teams for eliminating unfair advantages in restarts. Now, this same rule will be applied in the NASCAR México Series, providing Mexican drivers with a similar experience to their American counterparts.

Selection Process in Querétaro

In the Querétaro oval, before the race restarts, drivers must stay in a line behind the pace car. Upon reaching the finish line, the pace car will move to the outside lane, signaling the start of the selection process. Drivers will be able to choose their lane after the finish line and before a painted "V" mark. Any infractions, such as changing positions before the selection or touching the mark with the tires, will result in a penalty.

Strategic Impact on Different Tracks

The lane choice in the Querétaro oval offers drivers a significant strategic opportunity. The track allows competitors to select the most suitable line according to race conditions and their position. On other tracks of the NASCAR México Series, the lane choice may be less decisive but remains an important strategic decision that can influence the race's outcome.

On tracks like the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, with its mix of curves and long straights, the lane choice can impact how drivers approach the more technical sections. On smaller tracks, like the San Luis Potosí oval, where restarts are frequent, the ability to choose the lane can offer a crucial tactical advantage.
