In a recent press conference at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Cole Custer confirmed that he will join the Haas Factory Team for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season. Custer will drive the No. 41 Ford Mustang, a decision that comes following the announcement of Stewart-Haas Racing's closure at the end of this season. Gene Haas, co-owner of the team, will continue in the sport with his new team, which will include one car in the Cup Series and two in the Xfinity Series.
Custer, who had previously competed in the Cup Series with Stewart-Haas Racing between 2020 and 2022, expressed his excitement for this new opportunity. "I grew up with Haas Automation and having their name on my suit is a great honor. I want to win for Gene and everyone at Haas Automation, as they have been fundamental to my career," said Custer.
Success in the Xfinity Series
The 26-year-old driver, who returned to the Xfinity Series full-time in 2023 and won the championship at Phoenix Raceway, currently leads the series standings and claimed his first victory of 2024 at Pocono Raceway.
Support from Haas and Ford Performance
The team will have additional sponsorship from HaasTooling.com and a technical alliance with RFK Racing, as well as support from Ford Performance. Gene Haas praised Custer, highlighting his ability to deliver results and his reputation both on and off the track. "Cole has represented Haas Automation for more than half his life and has delivered results every step of the way. He just wins, and he has proven that repeatedly," said Haas.
Future Plans for Haas Factory Team
In May, Gene Haas and Tony Stewart announced the closure of Stewart-Haas Racing's four-team Cup operation at the end of the season. However, Haas decided to continue in the Cup Series with one team and two in the Xfinity Series for 2025. Joe Custer, Cole's father, has been named manager of the new operation, which seemed to give Cole an advantage for the position. His recent victory at Pocono Raceway further solidified his position.
