Ryan Blaney, current NASCAR Cup Series champion, achieved his second victory of the season at the Great American Getaway 400, held at Pocono Raceway. Blaney, driving the No. 12 Team Penske Ford, remained firm in the lead during the final stages of the race, beating Denny Hamlin by 1.312 seconds and reminding his competitors that he is still a strong contender for this season's trophy.
Blaney took the lead on a restart with 44 laps remaining and did not relinquish it, despite two more restarts and constant pressure from Hamlin. Alex Bowman, the winner of the previous race, finished third, followed by William Byron and Joey Logano.
With this victory, Blaney moves up to fifth place in the championship standings. Along with his previous win at Iowa Speedway, Blaney becomes one of only five drivers with multiple victories this season.
Hamlin, who led 31 laps, commented on the importance of track position and the difficulty of passing Blaney. Meanwhile, Chase Elliott took the championship lead after surpassing his teammate Kyle Larson by just three points. Bubba Wallace also had a notable performance, finishing tenth and getting closer to the playoff zone.
Ross Chastain, one of the drivers fighting for the playoffs without a win this season, suffered an accident on lap 53 that left him out of the race. Kyle Busch, with issues in recent races, finished in 32nd place after a multi-car accident caused by contact with Corey LaJoie.
Post-race technical inspection confirmed Blaney as the official winner. Additionally, three cars were taken to the NASCAR Research & Development Center for further inspection: the No. 20 Toyota of Christopher Bell, the No. 22 Ford of Joey Logano, and the No. 48 Chevrolet of Alex Bowman.
Ty Gibbs, who started from the pole, led 21 laps before retiring due to engine failure, finishing in 27th place.
The next NASCAR Cup Series race will be the Brickyard 400, scheduled for next Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
