Johan Kristoffersson won his 42nd race in the FIA World Rallycross Championship on July 7th at the 'Magic Weekend' in Höljes, Sweden. Despite the heavy rain on Sunday.
The event attracted over 25,000 spectators who witnessed the start of the 'Battle of Technologies', where electric vehicles (EV) and sustainably-fueled internal combustion engines (ICE) competed directly. Kristoffersson, representing KMS - Horse Powertrain, began the day by dominating the qualifying races and maintained his performance in the semifinals, winning by more than 12 seconds.
In the final, starting from pole position, Kristoffersson maintained his lead from the start, taking advantage of his skill on the wet track to secure a comfortable victory. This win gives him a 22-point lead in the championship.
"I am very proud today," said the 35-year-old driver. "The conditions were extremely tricky, but I managed to stay calm and get a good start in the final. This car is a dream to drive in the rain. I am very happy."
Niclas Grönholm, from the CE Dealer Team, recovered from a disappointing performance on Saturday to secure second place in his electric PWE RX1e. Ole Christian Veiby, Kristoffersson's teammate, completed the podium after overcoming a stall in the final.
In other categories, Nils Andersson, the current FIA RX2e champion, won in the single-spec electric car series. Patrick O'Donovan repeated his success in Euro RX1 and Nils Volland took the victory in Euro RX3.
The next round of the championship will be in Nyirád, Hungary, known as the 'Red Cauldron', in three weeks.
