The Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, an electric vehicle from Ford Performance, achieved the best time at the 102nd edition of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, with a time of 8:53.553.
During the qualifying sessions, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck set a new record in the open category with a time of 3:32.831, surpassing the previous record of 3:39.939 set by Ford's SuperVan 4.2 in 2023. This improvement shows Ford's continuous progress in developing high-performance electric vehicles.
Romain Dumas, the SuperTruck driver, faced a technical issue during the climb, which forced him to come to a complete stop on the course. Despite this difficulty, which added approximately 26 seconds to his final time, Dumas successfully completed the race. The French driver restarted the vehicle and continued the ascent.
“I’m honored to achieve this victory with Ford Performance at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb,” said Dumas. “Everything about this event is a challenge because it is unlike any other form of racing; you only have one shot. We faced a challenge early on, but that only gave me more determination to make up the lost time in the rest of the run.”
The design and construction of the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck were made possible through collaboration with STARD (Stohl Advanced Research and Development), which helped develop the 1,600-horsepower engine.
Sriram Pakkam, Formula 1 and high-performance EV manager at Ford Performance Motorsports, highlighted the collective effort of the team to achieve this feat. The combination of efficient aerodynamic design and optimal weight control allowed the SuperTruck to maximize its performance and stability on the mountain.
