Ford Performance unveils F-150 Lightning SuperTruck EV at Pikes Peak

Ford Performance has revealed its F-150 Lightning SuperTruck EV in camouflage ahead of tests scheduled for next week. This vehicle is preparing to return to Pikes Peak, the famous American mountain, where it will compete on June 23, 2024, with driver Romain Dumas, the current record holder at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

The F-150 Lightning SuperTruck EV, developed in collaboration with STARD, draws inspiration from the F-150 Lightning. Its aerodynamic features are designed to generate 6,000 pounds of downforce at 150 mph, essential for its performance at Pikes Peak.

This electric vehicle demonstration program significantly advances research in electric powertrains. Additionally, it provides valuable information for software calibration and battery cell chemistry in production vehicles and future race programs.

In 2023, Ford's SuperVan 4.2 set a new record in the Open Class at Pikes Peak with a time of 8:47.682 on the 20 km course. The new F-150 Lightning SuperTruck follows in the footsteps of the Switchgear, a high-performance demonstrator for both on-road and off-road, developed with RTR and based on the production Lightning platform, enhanced with reinforced suspension, carbon composite panels, and skid plates.
