Antonio Felix da Costa from TAG Heuer Porsche secured his second victory of the season in Round 12 of the Shanghai E-Prix. Da Costa led the race from lap 16 after overtaking Norman Nato from Andretti, maintaining his advantage until the end. Jake Hughes from NEOM McLaren, who had secured pole position by a margin of 0.001 seconds, finished in second place, achieving his first podium.
Hughes battled intensely with Nick Cassidy from Jaguar TCS Racing, the championship leader, during the first half of the race. In the end, Hughes managed to secure second place, while Cassidy had to settle for fourth after contact damaged his front wing.
Nato, who led at the beginning, finished third. Despite his issues, Cassidy achieved a decent result considering that his main title rival, Pascal Wehrlein from Porsche, had to make a pit stop to change a punctured tire, leaving Wehrlein pointless.
Mitch Evans from Jaguar TCS Racing finished in fifth place, closely following Cassidy. DS PENSKE drivers Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Eric Vergne finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Maximilian Guenther from Maserati MSG Racing, Robin Frijns from Envision Racing, and Oliver Rowland from Nissan completed the points-paying positions. Reigning champion Jake Dennis from Andretti could not recover positions and finished in 11th place.
As a result, Cassidy holds a 25-point lead over Wehrlein in the drivers' championship. Jaguar TCS Racing leads the team standings with 299 points, while Porsche has 228 points. In the manufacturers' standings, Porsche remains ahead with 337 points, followed by Jaguar with 328 points.
The next event is a double-header in Portland on June 29 and 30, as the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship heads into its final four rounds.
